Gagarin Cup

The Gagarin Cup is the Kontinental Hockey League main trophy. It is named in honor of Yuri Gagarin (1934-1968) – the world's first cosmonaut. The first winners of the trophy, Ak Bars Kazan, were presented with their prize on April 12, Cosmonautics Day.

The Cup is made from 925 sterling silver, gold-plated, and the front is engraved with the image of Yuri Gagarin in his spacesuit and flanked by a soaring comet. On the reverse side is a figure of a hockey player, and the Cup is encircled by a band of pucks, each bearing the name of a winning team. At the base of the trophy is the emblem of the KHL.

The Cup weighs 19kg (approx. 42lbs). stands 84.5cm (approx. 2' 9”) in height, and can hold approx. 12 liters (approx. 3.2 US gallons)

The Gagarin Cup was sculpted by Vladimir Maizel, member of the Union of Artists, and head of the Maizel jewelry studio.
